Ethics is the morality that a person has that governs how they act and what values they hold, this defines how someone perceives crime, justice, how people are treated and what is right and wrong.
What makes an ethical issue “important” or “significant”?
An ethical issue being important or significant is when the morality of the act is debated whether or not it could harm someone, for example, assisted suicide is an important ethical issue as it is holding someone responsible for the death of another whether or not they are helping them as well as taking a life.
An ethical issue in Cyber security?
White hat hackers who are entrusted with checking the security of a companies network may come across sensitive data or company secrets, or even illegal activity, it is their decision to break the law an expose these faults of a company for the greater good and face jail time or to leave it and allow the company to get away with this.
What are the benefits of ethics to society?
Society would not function correctly without their being a moral code to follow, as well as this not everyone would be treated equally as they would not consider everyone to have the same rights. Finally someone’s behaviour in the past may affect their future in getting opportunities e.g. getting a job as they would not be trusted.
